No fewer than 200 guests were live at the pitch for ASHES, a Christian all dance/dance theatre production commemorating the 10th anniversary of Praise Dance Academy (P.D.A). Hosted by the Praise Dance Academy and convened by Mr Abiodun Babalola at Adegbemile Cultural Centre, Akure, the Ondo State capital.
In his welcome address, Mr. Abiodun recounted how he was also once an audience at a dance show in the same hall many years ago which ended up wetting his appetite and interest in dance.
He said dance is a ministry God called him into and an encounter set to change the lives of the people. "when God gives a vision he also gives a considerable passion to drive the vision" he says
Sharing thoughts on why he started the dance academy, Mr. Abiodun said there is the need to teach the people the right way as PDA serves the purpose to orientate people about the act of praise dancing as a gospel tool.
He further enjoined everyone to use their talents for God. "All gifts are given by God and the best we can do is to use them to the glory of God. God speaks through different dimensions just as he spoke to Moses through a burning bush, he could speak to you through dance. So, it's always a good thing using ones gifting for God".
While also admonishing parents to allow their children who crave to dance the opportunity, Mr. Abiodun particularly spoke about the dangers of restricting a child also from pursuing their passion
"Don't restrict them because dance could be done alongside education. It will strengthen their learning ability, team work, memorization among others", he stressed.
Particularly noting that funding could be a problem to artistic event like Ashes, Mr. Babalola further restated the need to trust God and never give up.
The late afternoon show which started with prayer dance performed by Bayode Bukayo and Bayode Fayokemi, was followed by worship dance by Tonia and some side attractions such as a dance exercise which had the participation of the audience, freestyling to the Christian vibe.
Other highlights include praise dance, kids dance, a dance of healing, a dance about freedom, A dance of victory tagged break every chains and some others
The event which also featured recognition of some special guests climaxed with a session for Testimonials where some individuals shared life transforming experiences.
One of those who spoke is Gbadebo, a member of P.D.A who said his prayer life took better shape after joining the praise dance academy.
"My prayer life and relationship with God improved after I became a member of P.D.A"
Also testifier, Sister Pomile mentioned how joining the academy improved her self esteem and made her a lot less shy
" I really appreciate this academy and I'm very proud to be a member of P.D.A", she said happily confirming the affirmations already made by many others about how the academy has improved their lives.
ASHES is a Dance Musical Theater which highlights the physical, emotional, and social consequences of substance abuse, emphasizing the detrimental impact it can have on individuals, families, and communities.
To a large extent, it explores the possibility of redemption and healing, showcasing how even in the darkest of times, individuals can find hope and overcome adversity and use artistic talents to share faith and inspire others, There's always grace and provisions that abound in God's kingdom for all sinners to come back to him. The script was written by Mr Progress Adetula and Directed by Ayonitemi Bayode
This year's event is marked with high sense of spirituality and healing from bondage.
