The Rotary Club of Akure Metro in conjunction with Interact Clubs of Integrity College and Imafon Community High School took a giant step on Tuesday, 21st January, 2025 in advancing knowledge about fire safety as it engaged students of secondary schools within Akure and its environs.
At the event held at Aquinas College, Akure, the President of Rotary Club of Akure, Metro, Rotn. (Dr.)Toyin Adeyalo- Ogundare said the month of January is dedicated to vocational service and that the workshop was put together to equip the youths with necessary skills most especially public safety skills.
Particularly, she urged the students to make most use of the training and equip themselves as lot of human activities hinges on energy utilisation and thus makes people susceptible to the dangers and damages of fire outbreak.
She said fire safety education is a knowledge both for the young and old, which is why Rotary International shares the sentiment that everyone must be the first vanguard of safety precautions.
The guest lecturer from the Federal Fire Service, Ondo State, Deputy Controller Adeyemo Ariyo ably represented by DSF Joshua Michael while giving his presentation educated the students on ways of avoiding social malady during fire outbreak.
He decried the apathy of timely response to aid Firefighting efforts as some rather than provide help to victims takes pleasure in recording videos for views online.
He underscored the need to have basic Fire fighting equipment such as a Fire Blanket, Fire Extinguisher whether gas or foam both at work and at home just as he encouraged them to pursue professional career in Fire Service.
At the event also was the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology ably represented by Dr. Akindele Ige, Director of Schools who acknowledged efforts of Rotary Club, noting that he had witnessed laudable initiatives in the past towards making the society a better place.
In a separate remark, the immediate past Special Adviser to Mr. Governor on Gender matters, Hon. Olamide Falana also applauded Rotary Club for their laudable contributions to the development of the society.
She further stressed that safety is everybody's business and that all hands must be on deck to ensure safety.
The event among others featured physical demonstration of how to extinguish fire during emergencies and also a special recognition session for deserving schools and individuals. The club also gave out fire blankets for laboratory use to all the participating schools.

Also in attendance were the immediate past Chairman of NMA Ondo State, Dr. Adeyemi Osowe and Arch. Abiodun Adeseye among others.
