Former Aide to Ondo State Govenor, the Special Adviser on Gender Matters, Chief Mrs. Olamide Falana has instituted a scholarship award for the best graduating female student in the School of Life Sciences(SLS), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
This was one major highlight of the 3rd Annual Lecture of the School held today, Tuesday, March 25, 2025
Hon. Falana who said the gesture is to provide support for the development of the girl child noted that she strongly believes that when young girls and young women are encouraged especially in the area of science and technology, they stand tall and excel in their chosen career path.
"This award will spur them to strive for the best and stand tall and I am particularly excited about what SLS is doing here today", she stressed just as she affirmed her readiness to review upward the financial reward after 5 years of consistent reward systems.
Earlier in his remarks, the Dean, SLS, Prof. Olufemi Ashamo said the annual lecture provides the platform to discuss areas of interest that may lead to further research.
While appreciating the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji for her special interest in the school; the deputy Vice Chancellors, Registrar,
University Librarian, Bursar, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments/units, distinguished member of board of studies staff and students for the success of the program, he noted that so many patents are out from SLS which is presently undergoing development.
He however used the opportunity to call for partnerships with those in the industry to make the dream a reality
One other major highlight of the annual lecture is the presentation of award to some individuals who have excelled in their various fields
Some of the those honoured include the current President of FUTA Alumni Association
Bello Rabiu Adeyemi, a philanthropist and a friend of the school and Prof C.O Adedire, a former Dean of the defunct School of Sciences among others.
